CI 106: Data Warehousing

Given the importance of data,  and the need to look across it with not just patient specific questions but population level questions – we’ve devoted a whole lesson to data warehouses. We’ll start by providing a definition of data warehouses and then cover some of the key roles found on a data warehouse team including the db administrator who maintains the system, the architect who designs the database, another role that helps load it with data from different ‘live’ systems and reporting analysts who extract data and transform it into information.

This online presentation includes audio, demonstrations, instructional methods, and examples.

Learning objectives

Upon completing the lesson, the learner will be able to...

  1. learn what a data warehouse is.
  2. gain familiarity with common roles on the warehousing team.
  3. acquire a very basic understanding of relational database design.
