Are you familiar with “point of care testing”? Will you be interested in adopting point of care ultrasound to make a quick  preliminary diagnosis in various clinical settings? These lessons introduce a series of bedside ultrasound techniques to help clinicians to screen serious diseases in a timely manner.

Lesson 1: Point of Care Ultrasound Basics

Point of care ultrasound has an important role in the diagnosis and management of patients in many clinical areas. This module is in development as the first in a series of didactic lectures and videos designed to provide a basic introduction to point of care ultrasound. Later modules will discuss specific uses of bedside ultrasound for procedural guidance and diagnostic purposes.

Lesson 2: Limited Point of Care Echocardiography

This module introduces the learner to the basics of limited point of care echocardiography. We will review the principles of limited cardiac ultrasound, its indications and limitations, appropriate equipment, technique, basic imaging findings including normal findings and some pathologic, and we will discuss how to obtain images on live patients.

Lesson 3: Screening Compression Ultrasound for Lower Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

This module covers the screening examination for lower extremity deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, by compression ultrasound. The screening examination described in this presentation is designed to detect proximal lower extremity DVT with a simple two-point examination. Experience has shown that this approach is both sensitive and specific in the clinical setting.
