Mayumi Willgerodt

CHSIE affiliate faculty member, Mayumi Willgerodt, PhD, MPH, FAAN, FNASN, RN, an associate professor and vice chair of education at the UW School of Nursing, was featured in the November 13, 2021 New York Times online article, “They See Us as the Enemy: School Nurses Battle Covid-19, and Angry Parents” by Emily Anthes. Dr. Willgerodt was interviewed as an expert on school nursing about the growing impact COVID-19 is having on school nurses.

The article also references Dr. Willgerodt’s National School Nurse Workforce Study results, published in 2018, which revealed that most school nurses in the U.S. care for students at more than one school and about one-quarter of schools do not even have a paid nurse on staff.
